Savouring a good meal takes time, patience, and a personal assistant to answer all calls and emails while staving off an angry horde of hungry people waiting their turn. Today’s Groupon appreciates the finer things in life: for RM199, you get a four-hour wine appreciation class with Reuben Arthur from the Taylor’s Centre for Continuing Professional Education at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus in Subang Jaya (RM500 value).

Aperitive disciples of fermented grape juice crowd under the expert tutelage of seasoned oenologist Reuben Arthur, who guides through the theoretical hogwash of fruity ebullition and its various allotropes.  Students learn the various factors that affect wines while diving into 3D world maps to understand wine geography. Speech and drama will also be taught, as students learn how to pair wine with food, order drinks at eateries with finesse while ensuring that waiters don’t present a false imitation bottle. Other potentially embarrassing moments are also addressed, as docents learn how to open a wine bottle.

White, red and sparkling wines will be featured for this class, along with one dessert. Participants are advised to have a meal before the class, as wine doesn’t sit well in an empty stomach and one plate of dessert may prove difficult to share equally. Although not included in this Groupon, Taylor’s Centre for Continuing Professional Education organises the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, conducted by none other than Reuben Arthur who is a specialist in oenology and is the only one of two certified trainers in Malaysia allowed to conduct the Wine and Spirit Education Trust UK programmes.
