During feudal Japan, geishas were the most commonly sought after form companionship, but were quickly replaced by animated virtual characters who ran faster and never spilt hot tea. Today’s Groupon blurs the realms of real life fantasy: for RM10, you get a meal set worth RM22.90 with Mango Curry Rice (RM19.90 value) and Ocha Japanese Green Tea (RM3 value) at Tenshi no Café in e@Curve, Mutiara Damansara.
Taking its cue from the Maid or Meido Café fad in Japan, Tenshi no Café brings virtual Japanese Anime and Cosplay dining to live. Diners enter the dollhouse restaurant with its pink brick walls, chequered floors and dainty white furniture, to be waited upon like Lords and Ladies of an unknown virtual dynasty. At the swoosh of a thousand virtual katanas, friendly French maids in frilly pink and white frocks and vest-strapping butlers serve the Mango Curry Rice (RM19.90), which sates small to medium appetites with the intermingling flavours of Japanese curry paste, chicken, jelly, mango on heart-shaped Japanese rice. Cool a spice laden palate with traditional Ocha Japanese Green tea (RM3), and if the food isn’t to their liking, dinners may summon a maid or butler who guides them to perform the sacred ritualistic gesture which both magically powers-up their food and sends it back to the kitchen. The café offers nostalgic dinners a chance to time travel into their toddler days, as maids of butlers will gladly spoon feed customers three scoops of munch for RM3.

Console connoisseurs get to team up with their Cosplay attendants to slay virtual dragons on the Play Station 3 for RM5 per gaming round, or challenge them to undigital board gaming on one of the plush sofas, while occasionally peeking out the French windows at envious onlookers. More chatty patrons may indulge in deep Anime-talk with their maid or butler, or interact with virtual ones via Wi-Fi beacons.
Cosplay and Anime fans are encouraged to check with the restaurant management for upcoming events and gatherings.
