Dim sum was introduced to the world when marauding Mongols climbed over the Great Wall of China and grabbed the first dish they saw before being forced to retreat by kung fu pandas. Today’s Groupon salutes failed invasions: for RM28, you and a friend get a four-course dim sum meal (14 items total) from New Shanghai in Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur (RM88.40 value). Meal comprises of:
Dynamic duos descend upon the Shanghai-esque eatery to savour over 100 varieties of dim sum of all shapes, sizes, textures and complex Chinese characters. Opening lids to steamed heavens, patrons enjoy bites of bliss before digging into six varieties of baked or fried dim sum. Steamed buns contain all-time favourites like char siew and red bean paste, delighting tubby tummies and minions secretly collecting crumbs beneath the table. Completing the dim sum treasure hunt, weary mouths finish off dessert before resting eyes tired from running across vast menus. Diners cool off in air-conditioned climates while taking in the contemporary Shanghai décor, and unsatisfied stomachs may order additional dishes at a 10% discount, or the longevity bun set at a 25% discount.

I quite like the decor of the shop. They have indeed tried to bring in a Shanghainese feel to it. We were seated at the armchairs and the tables were a bit too small and low to truly enjoy the food. But to sink in and sip at tea while catching up? Perfect. – Sep 6, 2011

It's an eye-popping smorgasbord of traditional favorites: sweet potato biscuits, shrimp & bean curd rolls, pan-fried lotus root puffs, yam & radish cakes, Teochew sesame balls, Shanghai pancakes & so much more _ sufficient to feed the proverbial small army. New Shanghai's offerings are well-executed; light on grease & salt but still nicely seasoned & engagingly tasty. Crisp and flaky, with moist, juicy stuffing. – Aug 8, 2011
